ONE
The first thing you need to do to set up Crayon Connection at your school, is find the school you want to collect the supplies from (most likely your own school), and find the school you would like to donate the supplies to(maybe a sister school or any other title one school in the area).
TWO
Once you have picked the schools, the second step to set this up is that you need to contact the schools and introduce them to this program. A Simple Email Draft to Send to the Schools You Want Involved in this Program
THREE
The third step to setting up Crayon Connection, is finding the dates for when you are collecting the supplies, and when you are dropping off the supplies. To do this you need to find out when the school you are collecting the supplies from, is getting out of school. You will most likely want to pick up the supplies on the last day of school. Another thing you will need to do is find out when the students take their supplies home, because you will want to put out bins before that. You should put a bin in each classroom of the school, and in the front office. You will also need to contact the school you are giving the supplies to, to find a time to drop the supplies off.
FOUR
The fourth step to setting this up is to make the students aware. You might want to make an announcement to the whole school you are collecting from so they know to drop their supplies off. You can also put up posters around the school so everyone is reminded.
FIVE
The fifth step is to put the bins out in each classroom and front office, then pick them up
SIX
The sixth step is to sort the supplies by category:pencils, markers, colored pencils, crayons, ect.. During this process, you might want to start weeding out the broken supplies and throwing them away.
SEVEN
The next step is to clean the supplies up:ripping used pages out of notebooks, putting stickers over where people put their names, ect..You also want to test all of the markers and pens to make sure they are all good quality. You also will need to sharpen all the pencils/colored pencils.
EIGHT
Next, you need to get the supplies ready for drop off. You can use the bins, but instead you might want to use ziplocs and grocery bags becuase they are disposable.
NINE
The last step is to drop the supplies off at the recipient school.
